A Bond That Began in College Days
Some places do not remain destinations; they quietly become companions in your life. Dalhousie is one such place for me. My relationship with this hill town began during my college days, and since then, I have returned countless times. Every visit feels familiar, yet every time it reveals something new. I have written a few blogs about Dalhousie before, but this journey carried emotions that deserved their own words. Dalhousie feels incomplete without Khajjiar, just as Khajjiar quietly belongs to Dalhousie. To visit one is to feel the gentle pull of the other—two places bound together by beauty, emotion, and the promise of a fuller journey.
This time, it was a quick plan—short on days but rich in intention. We reached Dalhousie late in the evening. The fatigue of travel allowed us only one simple ritual: stepping out for dinner before retreating to rest. The town rested quietly, as if waiting to greet us properly the next morning.
Morning Light, Quiet Tea, and Shared Moments
Morning arrived softly. Sunlight filtered through the window, dancing on the white clouds and filling the room with gentle warmth. It felt like a reminder—every new day carries hope if we pause long enough to notice it. We ordered tea and sat on the balcony, breathing in the calm, surrounded by silence, warmth, and a deep sense of peaceful comfort.

Rajni clicked a few photographs, capturing moments that words often fail to hold. Feeding small pieces of bread to the monkeys became an unexpectedly playful moment, one she enjoyed thoroughly. The sky kept changing—clouds moving fast, sunlight appearing and disappearing—mirroring how life itself shifts without warning. Those moments felt unplanned, peaceful, and deeply human.
On the Road to Khajjiar: Where Plans Give Way to Magic
We planned our day around Khajjiar, knowing well that limited time demands choices. We skipped some places and postponed some activities. Yet I have learned something over the years of travel—the best moments are rarely planned.
The drive itself felt refreshing, winding through pine forests and mountain air that instantly lightens the heart. As we reached Khajjiar, the landscape unfolded like a familiar poem—one that still finds new ways to move you.
Khajjiar: A Meadow Full of Life and Emotions
Khajjiar was beautiful, just as it always is—alive with energy, emotions, and colours. The vast green meadow, the surrounding deodar trees, and the gentle slope of the land together create a sense of openness that calms the soul. It is no surprise that Khajjiar is often called the Mini Switzerland of India.

“Pahadi Maggi” dominates the scene these days, steaming in almost every corner. Horse riding, local activities, and cheerful crowds keep the place lively. Rajni enjoyed the horse ride and quietly captured moments, adding warmth and memories to our Khajjiar travel experience. Every journey through the hills comes with an unspoken rule—you stop at a Pahadi Maggi shop.
Pahadi Maggi Theme in Himachal
No fancy décor, no menu cards, just a small roadside setup where steam rises from a pan, and hunger disappears quietly. Sitting on a wooden bench, with the mountains watching silently, Maggi feels more than just food—it feels like comfort. The simplicity adds to the charm. A steel plate, a hot serving, and the aroma mixing with cold mountain air. Around you, travellers pause, conversations slow down, and time seems to respect the hills. This is not about taste alone; it’s about the moment. The warmth of the food balances the chill outside, creating a memory that stays longer than the journey itself.
A Pahadi Maggi shop is not a destination—it’s a pause. A reminder that the best experiences are often found at the most unexpected stops.

Near the Khajji Nag Temple, local eateries offer a taste of Himachal’s warmth. We enjoyed siddu, a traditional delicacy, followed by a simple yet delicious lunch of lemon chicken and chapatis. Vegetarian options are equally plentiful, making Khajjiar welcoming to all kinds of travellers.
Where to Stay: Dalhousie or Khajjiar?
We chose to stay in Dalhousie to explore nearby areas, and it worked well for us. However, for those deeply inclined toward nature and silence, staying in Khajjiar or nearby villages can be a rewarding experience. One suggestion I always share—book your accommodation online in advance, especially during peak seasons, to avoid last-minute inconvenience.
Why do Dalhousie and Khajjiar always call me back?
As I reflect, I realise something simple yet profound. I first came here as a college student, curious and carefree. Over the years, I returned as a traveller, a writer, and a seeker of calm. And every time, Dalhousie and Khajjiar welcomed me with a new charm.
Nature has endless abundance for those who can admire it, praise it, and sit quietly within it. Even though I have written about this place before, this journey carried new feelings—subtle emotions, shared smiles, and moments that stayed longer than photographs.
Dalhousie and Khajjiar do not just offer views; they offer renewal. And I believe they will continue to offer something new to every visitor—each time they return with an open heart. I can’t end this article without another promise to come again this beautiful and mystical place.
