The Hochschule der Wirtschaft für Management (HdWM), a state-approved private University of Applied Sciences in Mannheim, Germany, has been offering practice-oriented bachelor’s and master’s degrees since 2011. This Master’s in Business Management prepares for a global management career. A key advantage for international students is that the master’s programme is offered entirely in English. The advanced academic education provided is recognized for its quality, being accredited by FIBAA and the German Science Council. Student-oriented professors, hands-on teaching methods epitomise the vision of HdWM, and a multicultural student atmosphere, fostering global and future-centred thinking.
Program Structure and Flexibility
HdWM offers the Master’s degree in management in two main variants to suit diverse personal needs: the shorter MA Business Management EN (3 semesters, approximately 1.5 years) and the MA Business Management EN with Digital Leadership (4 semesters). A significant feature of the curriculum is its flexibility, allowing students to combine their studies and career effectively. Even when studying full-time, lectures take place on only two days per week. This schedule provides free time. Students can use it to work as working students, study for lectures, or handle personal matters. For those who need more flexibility, the Master’s in Business Management offers a part-time option. Students can attend fewer lectures each semester. They can also extend their studies without paying extra tuition.

Academic Approach and Learning Environment
The Master’s degree in management at HdWM is characterised by a high degree of practical orientation and internationalisation. Students learn from management experts and professors who pass on many years of experience in the business world. The program is based on a system-oriented management approach, which teaches students to view their company and work within a whole system interwoven with the environment, the market, and competitors. This perspective enables them to develop sustainable management strategies for long-term company success. Students benefit from individual supervision in small groups, typically comprising fewer than 25 students. The learning environment features interactive seminars and group work to foster independence and sharpen students’ ability to form their own opinions. Furthermore, the close-knit community ensures that lecturers’ doors are always open for questions or concerns, which can greatly facilitate settling in for students coming from abroad to study in Germany.
Eligibility and Application Procedure
The Master’s degree in management is suitable for graduates from a wide range of bachelor’s degrees. HdWM maintains flexible entrance options, including pre-semester programs and options to recognize previous credits or work experience. The university focuses on the applicant as a person, including their skills and motivation, and therefore does not have a closed admission policy. Required documents include their complete academic background in table form, a high school diploma or other university entrance qualification, examination results achieved to date, and a copy of their identity card. Studies commence on April 1st and October 1st. I recommend that you apply as early as possible, up to one year before the start date, to allow enough time for the application process, especially when planning a move abroad, even though there is no fixed application deadline.

Career Prospects and Practical Integration
The highest aim of the Master’s in Business Management is to prepare students ideally for a successful job entry. The program prepares graduates for entry-level management roles in a tough job market. Potential career roles include HR manager, IT consultant, or positions in international management. The program integrates practical experience in various ways, notably through an 8-week internship where students directly apply learned theories. Alternatively, students may participate in a research project focusing on leadership-related topics instead of the internship, depending on their career aims.
The Career Network @ HdWM is a cornerstone of the study model and provides significant advantages. This network offers personal career planning and career coaching sessions. It connects students with approximately 50 partner companies, ranging from multinational corporations and associations to start-ups and small or medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Students gain insight into real-life management through job fairs, guest lectures, or company visits organized by the Career Network team. The program uses English as the teaching language, which prepares students for international management careers. However, German companies usually expect applicants to have strong German skills. To support this need, HdWM provides German classes, including courses offered in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut Mannheim, and aligns them with the Master’s studies.
