A Journey Rooted in Punjab’s Heartlands
Des Raj Kali’s journey began in Mithapur village, Jalandhar, where he absorbed the influences of Sufi saints and Dalit writers like Lal Singh Dil and Sant Gulab Das. These early experiences laid the foundation for his later work that would captivate hearts across the world. We met for the first time when he was the resident editor of the magazine section of Dainik Bhaskar at Jalandhar. Since then, we have always been in touch, every time discussing some new topic. I always enjoyed his company. He passed away at a very early age of 51, on 27th August 2023. His literary works were celebrated on platforms ranging from the Jaipur Literature Festival (2010) to special sessions at Nottingham Trent University in England, Montpellier University in France, and Monash University in Australia, among others.
